Following microscopic motion in a two dimensional glass-forming binary fluid

چکیده
The dynamics of a binary mixture of large and small discs are studied at temperatures approaching the glass transition using an analysis based on the topology of the Voronoi polygon surrounding each atom. At higher temperatures we find that dynamics is dominated by fluid-like motion that involves particles entering and exiting the nearest-neighbour shells of nearby particles. As the temperature is lowered, the rate of topological moves decreases and motion becomes localised to regions of mixed pentagons and heptagons. In addition we find that in the low temperature state particles may translate significant distances without undergoing changes in their nearest neighbour shell. These results have implications for dynamical heterogeneities in glass forming liquids. Following microscopic motion in a two dimensional glass-forming binary fluid 2

Dynamics of particles and cages in an experimental 2D glass former
We investigate the dynamics of a glass-forming 2D colloidal mixture and show the existence of collective motions of the particles. We introduce a mean square displacement MSD with respect to the nearest neighbors which shows remarkable deviations from the usual MSD quantifying the individual motion of our particles. Combined with the analysis of the self-part of the Van Hove function this indic...
متن کاملTraveling waves in a water-immersed binary granular system vibrated within an annular cell.
It has been known since the time of Faraday that vertically vibrated fine grains may spontaneously form piles through their interaction with a fluid. More recently, it has been observed that a fine binary mixture may separate under vertical vibration through the differential influence of the fluid on the two granular components. Here, we report a detailed study of a system of water-immersed bro...
متن کاملNonlinear microrheology of dense colloidal suspensions: A mode-coupling theory
A mode-coupling theory for the motion of a strongly forced probe particle in a dense colloidal suspension is presented. Starting point is the Smoluchowski equation forN bath and a single probe particle. The probe performs Brownian motion under the influence of a strong constant and uniform external forceFex. It is immersed in a dense homogeneous bath of (different) particles also performing Bro...
متن کاملThe Monte Carlo dynamics of a binary Lennard-Jones glass-forming mixture
We use a standard Monte Carlo algorithm to study the slow dynamics of a binary Lennard-Jones glass-forming mixture at low temperature. We find that the Monte Carlo approach is by far the most efficient way to simulate a stochastic dynamics since the relaxation is about 10 times faster than in Brownian dynamics and about 30 times faster than in stochastic dynamics. Moreover, the average dynamica...

Nowadays, microchannels as closed circuits channels for fluid flow and heat removal are an integral part of the silicon-based electronic microsystems. Most of previous numerical studies on microchannel heat sinks (MCHS) have been performed for a two-dimensional domain using constant properties of the working fluid. In this study, laminar fluid flow and heat transfer of variable properties Al2O3...
